All prints are in a limited edition of 50 and are signed by the artist.

About the Orchid Suite Prints

 

These limited edition digital prints all originate from pencil drawings that Robert made.

 

He then scanned the pencil drawings into photoshop and coloured the picture there, and in some cases added in photos he had taken. So the final work is only produced physically once it is printed out.

 

In the works Robert focuses on a few contrasts which often relate to reflections of things and the things themselves, sections of flat colour and busy sections of frenetic drawing and sections of drawing and photography.

 

The series of prints, called the Orchid Suite, was inspired by Picasso's Vollard Suite.

 

In Picasso's Vollard Suite, Picasso often sets up image between an artist, his model and the work he has produced. It is as if the work the artist has made is a reflection of the model he has copied.

 

There is a poetic strand in these works about the real and the reflection, as the artist is often seen to be gazing at both the model and the work he has produced.

 

The works ask the question about what is the difference between the model and the art work. Much as Jasper Johns' paintings of flags ask the question about what is different between a flag and the painting of a flag. They may look the same but one is actually a painting and one is actually a flag.

 

Robert's Orchid Suite looks to make similar poetic comments.
